Seeing the perfection of the journey

One of the first books I read when I started on my spiritual journey was The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.  This was a powerful book in many ways for me, but the most important lesson I learned from it was to trust the universe in the unfolding of my life knowing that all that unfolds is ultimately for the good of my soul’s journey, even when it unfolds drastically differently than I expected.

Many of us can do this a little more easily in retrospect.  We look back on a previous hardship and get the beautiful lesson that the soul gleaned from it.  It’s a little more difficult to hold this truth, however, when you are in the midst of the hardship.  This is the practice I am sharing with you today.  Use your past experience to remind you of the Universe’s astounding ability to orchestrate an unfathomable amount of events to ensure the perfect unfolding of your soul’s journey.

This is one of our life lessons. And when we really get it, it produces a profound peace, ease and trust that allows a much more enjoyable journey through life. Here is a little story from my own life that illustrates this point.  I encourage you to look for them in your life.  They are always there.

- Namaste, Michelle

A story of seeing the perfection of the journey:

It was a busy day for me.  I had things planned pretty tightly to try to fit in everything I wanted to get accomplished.  My first order of business what a chiropractic appointment.  I was in quite a good mood that day, feeling very much in the flow.   However, as I drove down I-95 listening to my Micheal Beckwith CD’s, it dawned on me that I had missed my exit by a couple miles!  I drove this road thousands of time in my life and know the exits by heart.   How could I have missed my exit?  After a moment of frustration, I felt an inner calm.  This was definitely not worth dropping my vibration over.  So, as I have trained myself, I commented out loud that there must be some reason I missed that exit, and turn myself around at the next exit.  I also called the chiropractors office and laughed with Marie at the front desk as I told her what I had done.

I ended up at the chiropractor’s office about 20 minutes late.  Just as I left the chiropractor’s office, I receive a call from a friend, Andy, who explained that he had ran out of gas and was wondering if I could possibly help him.  He had a gas can that was already a bit full at his house, he explained, if I was open to driving all the way over there to get it.

In that moment the perfection of the missed exit began to unfold.   Andy’s house was actually a few streets down from my chiropractor.  If I had arrived 20 minutes earlier to the chiropractor, like I had planned, I would have already been back at my home 20 minutes away when Andy called.  Instead I was just a minute from his house where I quickly grabbed the gas can and headed his direction to help.

Now it gets even better…  In order to help Andy, I had to cancel other plans I had previously arranged.  A friend who works nearby my house was going to help me pick up and carry some huge water jugs that I couldn’t pick up on my own right before she left for the morning.  We could have lifted them between the two of us, but it would still have put a strain on my back which is currently in the healing process.  But, because of helping Andy, I knew I wouldn’t be able to catch her before she left.  So, again, releasing control and trusting the process, I headed to help Andy.

Within 20 minutes Andy’s car was up and running and it dawned on me that maybe he was part of the solution.  It turned out he had some time and was perfectly willing and able to lift the water jugs at my house without my even needing to help in the lifting.

So, do you see the perfection of it all?  Through missing that exit, and trusting the process,  not only was I able to get in my chiropractic appointment and help a friend in need, I was also able to get my water jugs in place without having to lift a finger! It was a better unfoldment then I ever could have come up with on my own.   I didn’t have all the pieces of the puzzle when I created my plan.  Yet, by going with the flow and trusting the process, what could have felt at various times like a stressful situation of unexpected changes became a wonderful journey that surprised and delighted me.

Try it sometime.  It’ll change your life.
